Arsenal have been linked with the Spanish midfielder Isco before but nothing has come of it. Reports this week are suggesting that the midfielder, real name Francisco Roman Alarcon is due to be the subject of bids from the Gunners, Man United and the Italian club Juventus when the transfer window opens in January.
Is it likely, however, or mere speculation? Isco is certainly a good player, he was fantastic for Malaga in the champion’s league this week. A man of the match performance and two good goals helped Malaga beat a good Zenit St. Petersburg side 3-0. The 22-year old has been a stalwart of the under age Spanish international sides since 2008, scoring 21 times in 56 appearances.
Malaga will not want to lose him but they may be forced to sell him for financial reasons, as they did with the Arsenal midfielder Santi Cazorla. The thing is, we already have Cazorla, so do we need Isco, who occupies a very similar role? Yes it is good to have lots of good players but, unless Arsene Wenger releases some players, there is no room in the squad for him.
Also, it is unlikely that Arsenal would spend good money on a player to sit on the bench. United had scouts at the game in midweek and Juventus are known to be desperate to add to their attacking options. All things considered, I would be very surprised to hear that Arsenal were bidding for the player in January.
